Green Initiatives

Environmental pioneers and early adopters of “Green” practices, the carpet industry has continued to develop, support and encourage current and future innovation. The ANSI standard on sustainable carpet, Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard/NSF 140 was the first step. Through the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), carpet manufacturers voluntarily adopted the Green Label Indoor Certification program for Indoor Air Quality in 1992. Leaders in reclamation efforts formed Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), working to increase the available outlets for post-consumer carpet materials.
